The Organ Scrubber

Defragmenting-Daniel-Web-3d-Tablet

Dear Readers

Imagine a soulless orphanage that steals their charges’ organs, only to replace them with cheap cybernetic parts.

Now imagine someone who will do anything to get those organs back.

Does that sound like a story a reader of my work would like? I think YES, which is why I’m introducing you to fellow dystopian (and South African) author, Jason Werbeloff.

His series, Defragmenting Daniel, is on promo today, with book 1 at 99c. Grab it, give it a try, and let me know what you think!

Defragmenting Daniel – Book 1 ‘The Organ Scrubber’ 99c
Jason Werbeloff
4.4 stars out of 5 (170 reviews)

If you enjoy the mind-bending science fiction of Philip K. Dick and William Gibson, or heart-pounding dystopian thrillers like The Hunger Games, you’ll love this dystopian sci-fi thriller.

They harvested his organs. Now he wants them back …

A soulless orphanage stole Daniel’s organs when he was a child, leaving him with cheap cybernetic replacements that only just kept him alive.

Now that he’s grown, his body is failing. The gears in his knee grind, his synthetic cornea weeps, and his asthmatic lungs spasm in winter. He needs the organs he was born with. But their new owners won’t give them back.

Not without a fight.

Find out why Jason Werbeloff’s books have been downloaded over 75,000 times.

Defragmenting Daniel is currently on a limited time Black Friday sale. Slice into Defragmenting Daniel todayYour brain will never be the same again.

IN OTHER NEWS

Lovely Joanna Penn of The Creative Penn interviewed me about writing radio plays. You can read the interview here!

THE STEPFORD FLORIST

I had such a great response to the (very) short novel ‘The Stepford Florist’ and have been asked by a couple of readers for a paperback version.

If you would like to order a paperback, please reply to this email and let me know. Depending on interest, I’ll upload it as a print-on-demand through Amazon, and if enough local (SA) readers want to order a signed copy I’ll do a small print run here.

To my American readers (which is most of you!), I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. May you be surrounded by love and/or books. And will someone please explain what a jello salad is? I’d love to know.

All the best and happy reading —

Dark Days, a Marie Claire feature, and a free book

marie claire screenshotDear Readers

I’ve had a couple of tough weeks in my personal life which put my writing on hold (including moving house, my beautiful old cat dying, and a week in hospital with my baby daughter after a terrible scare).

Usually writing gets me through dark days, but I found it impossible to write in hospital. Caring for precious Alex was a full time job, and I was dealing with a lot of heartache.

But we’re home now and recovering, and I’m preparing to start my new book.

I don’t have a title for it yet, but the plan is to write a snappy prequel novella / series starter for the When Tomorrow Calls series, featuring Keke as the main character, and launch it in January.

‘WHAT HAVE WE DONE’ LAUNCH

I still can’t believe how well book 1 did on the Amazon charts. I was dreaming of breaking into the top 1000, and we got up to #43! Incredible.

Thank you for supporting the launch. I appreciate every order and your reviews have been more than generous!

For those who have not yet picked up the new releases, you can do so here: What Have We Done and The Stepford Florist. I’d love to know what you think!

MARIE CLAIRE FEATURE: WOMEN WRITING SCI-FI

I was fortunate enough to be included in this Marie Claire feature about South African women in Science Fiction. If you’re interested, you can read it here.

PATREON

Thank you to my two new patrons this month, Claire Wickham and Joni Mielke. I can’t wait to name some characters after you!

I still owe Elize van Heerden a character, but I’m waiting for the next Grey Magic book to do that.

If you’d like to support my writing with as little as a coffee ($2) a month, you can do so via Patreon. Cheers!

New Release: The Stepford Florist

TSF COVERVAULT

Dear Readers

I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to share this new release with you.

My aim was to write a quick short story set in the futuristic world of ‘When Tomorrow Calls’ to use as a reader magnet for the series, but the story took on a life of its own and now it’s a (very) short novel! (76 pages / around 2 hours to read).

I published it on Amazon last week and a few readers noticed immediately and wanted to know why I hadn’t told them about it.

So … here I am, telling you about it!

If you enjoy short, sharp, sexy reads, then this book might be for you.

***

Here is the blurb:
The Stepford Florist: A Short Cyberpunk Conspiracy Thriller (When Tomorrow Calls)

Jasmine is arrested for performing a bootleg vampire facelift in her modded-out steampunk caravan.

She’s thrilled, because it’s worked out exactly as she planned.

Jasmine has mastered moonlighting.
She’s a steampunk inventor, a cosmetician, and a gene-hacking florist.

And then there’s her real job: exposing evil corps and dodgy clinics.

When Jasmine, the head of Alba—an underground biopunk organisation—is tipped off that something morally dubious is happening at the city’s most luxurious high-tech spa, she takes it upon herself to investigate, and discovers a whole lot more than she bargained for.

(Warning: Contains colourful language and sex.)

This short novel is set in the near-future ‘When Tomorrow Calls’ world, and introduces Jasmine, Seth and Keke, just before we meet Kirsten, the kick-ass main character in ‘Why You Were Taken’.

When Tomorrow Calls (over 150 5-star reviews)

Book 1: ‘Why You Were Taken’

Book 2: ‘How We Found You’

Book 3: ‘What Have We Done’

What will Jasmine discover? And, more importantly, will she get out alive?

If you do end up downloading it, I hope you enjoy the story! I’d love to know what you think.

I also just wanted to thank you one more time for supporting the promo and launch last week. It was my most successful week to date I’m absolutely thrilled.

A Golden Age for Dystopian Fiction

siyan-ren-29565.jpg

Dear Readers
Thank you to everyone who ordered / reviewed / listened to the audiobook for ‘Why You Were Taken’. It’s doing well and has a 4.5 star rating on Audible. Yay!

We’re busy redesigning the cover (again!) to freshen it up for the release of the third book in the series and to make sure it’s signaling the correct genre. Of course, once we have the new cover finalised, you’ll be the first to see it.

(If you haven’t yet read ‘Why You Were Taken’, you can grab it for 99c till the 1st of September.)

It’s a great time to have a set of dystopian thrillers published: Entertainment Weekly reports that dystopian lit is enjoying a surge in popularity. Classics like George Orwell’s ‘1984′ and Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ are doing especially well.

Next month I’ll start work on the prequel novella, and hopefully I’ll be able to share that with you before the end of the year. Itll make a great December freebie.

TALKING ABOUT FREEBIES

I’ve just published an excerpt from ‘Grey Magic’ as a standalone short story on Amazon. ‘Fenrir (free till the end of the week) is about a viking who is called to fulfill his bloody destiny despite his desire to stay home with his love.
